He talks a good game, but I think it is too early to come out in support of one guy. Let's get some debates in first and then talk about who to stump for.
michael | March 25, 2003 9:24 AMPerhaps it would be fun for you to check out the Meetup.com page for Howard Dean people. Interestingly enough, Dean already has 10 times as many people registered at meetup.com than does the next most popular 2004 candidate, John Kerry. I think this says more about his supporters than it does about his level of support overall, though.
Nathan | March 25, 2003 12:11 PMCheck out Dean on homeland security:
Circle of preparation? Circle of protection? Circle of prevention? WTF?
Dean "on the issues" is something that is written for your standard upper middle-class Democrat/limosuine liberal. It almost entirely precludes race and the working class. And if Dean wants to get votes, he's going to have to appeal to these blocs.
The Democrat that can win in 2004 is the one that will dare to suggest that America return to the New Deal/Great Society concept of government helping the people. Advocating universal health care is one thing, but if we can spend millions to bail out the airllines, then why not spend millions on providing jobs and basic welfare?
Ed | March 25, 2003 1:12 PMI'm for Dean as well. I said it in 2000, and still believe, that the Green-Dem split can only lead to bad times. We've got nothing BUT bad times right now. The only way out is a middle ground. That's Dean. I'd rather cut a few idealistic corners here and there than give the Republicans carte blanche to make an even bigger mess of things than they have already.

Winona LaDuke for President!
Howard Dean will have about the same result as George McGovern.

i am a coward | March 26, 2003 4:10 AMIf we start buying into the media's conventional wisdom about who is electable, we have already lost. They picked Gore on election night, remember?
It's still early and the Left needs a new face, and that's why I think Dean can win. We should give him enough money to stay in. If we all go out to convince our nearest seething limousine-liberal to shell out a real victory fund, there's lots of time left over to heal the (now minor) Gore-Nader split and build on the majority of African Americans who, like Dean, simply oppose the war and its dreadful budget.

Great comments all around. I think something to believe in would be nice for a change. Something that can actually happen would also be nice. All I know at the moment, which isn't much I'll admit, is that by doing a subject search of the words "Green Party Howard Dean" I came up with loads of the most interesting links I've seen in a long time.
What's it mean? Who knows. . .
Cheers
Kevin | April 1, 2003 6:14 PMKevin, I'm confused. You know Howard Dean is a Democrat, right? And a relatively middle-of-the-road, fiscally conservative, Clinton Democrat to boot. You know, the kind we used to jeer at, who are now an endangered species?
Geegaw | April 3, 2003 9:37 AMKerry is the one to beat Bush with a moderate and preferably southern running mate. Why? Military experience. He can take away a lot of vet votes from Bush, being the vet's champion as Bush wants to cut vets benefits. Bush also went AWOL, deserted and owes the country one year of service. Kerry is a Silver and Bronze star winner, took three bullets, killed enemy and knows how to fire a tank. In fact he can blow up a bush at 1000 meters.

Thanks for posting this, Caterina. Do you know, Dean has made huge strides lately: he's now TIED with Kerry for the lead in New Hampshire!
Please let your American readers know that despite his exploding popularity Howard Dean, as one of the least moneyed candidates, is still depending on our grassroots and netroots contributions by the March 31st FEC filing deadline.... If you can find it in your heart and pockets to help work toward "regime change" in 2004, every little bit counts :)
