Hennetaster and Pantoffelhelden

Yesterday, Ray of the Bellona Times listed the "members of his tribe" who are: "wimp, weirdo, faggot, loser, milquetoast, hennetaster". Hennetaster?

I looked this up, and it appears to be a Dutch word, defined thusly on this wonderful page of Dutch proverbs:

De hennetaster = The hen toucher.
: A petticoat chaser or a man who cannot leave women alone.
Schürzenjäger oder einer, der Frauen nicht in Ruhe lassen kann.

But during my search I found this abstract to a paper by Martha Peacock, about the "Battle for the Trousers" during the late sixteenth and seventeenth centuries in the Netherlands, and (another great word, pantoffelhelden) which seems to indicate less of a skirt-chaser than an uxorious man:

Furthermore, other evils associated with battling and domineering women spawned a host of sub-themes in art such as scolding wives and pantoffelhelden, or literally, men beaten with their wife's shoes. Equally abundant were scenes of women forcing men to perform female tasks such as spinning, cleaning house, or feeling the hen for eggs (the hennetaster).

For those of us weak on Dutch vowel sounds, what's the pronunciation on hennetaster? Is it hennetaster as in turkey-baster, or henn-et-aster like asteroid or -isk? Having recently learned the proper way to say Scheveningen ( where they grind Old Holland oil colors), I know I better just ask.

A Dutch proverb I love, not on the page you linked, translates as "Walking with my soul under my arm", a crushing image of being forlorn and lonely, which is when you say it.

hennetaster means something like chicken grabber. It is pronounced hennuh-tastuh; the a in taster with a short British a, is in dance.

pantoffelheld means slipper-hero, or hero on slippers. There's also a comparable Dutch proverb calling someone like that a "held op sokken", or hero on socks; ie not a hero at all.

pantoffelheld, is pronounced pan-tough-uhl-held, again with a short British a.

"Hennetaster" reminds me of Plurp's GNE behavior. Always squeezing the chickens.

I wonder if "Pantoffelhelden" is related in any way to the name of Anouk's imaginary kangaroo Pantouffle in the novel "Chocolat."

Pantoufle is French for slipper, a pantouflard is a home-body.

My wife's family is Dutch. Here's a couple more Dutch proverbs:

He who is outside his door has the hardest part of his journey behind him.

Good communication is as stimulating as
black coffee, and just as hard to sleep after.

The Dutch also write some remarkable poetry.

My source for this delightful word (a delightful book, "The Secret Middle Ages") defined it as "hen-groper." The term's explicit justification is that the husband is so pussywhipped that he not only does womanly chores like gathering the eggs, but does them to excess by checking each hen for readiness to lay, so that he can be ready to gather the eggs as quickly as possible. (Such a hen-groper is pictured in a Bruegel painting.) But the connotations of fluffiness and solemn fatuity are what make the term come alive.
