Researchers at the University of Bath have found that girls routinely torture their Barbies, subjecting them to scalping, decapitation, burning and even microwaving.
Violence and torture against Barbie were repeatedly reported across age, school and gender. No other toy or brand name provoked such a negative response.
“You might expect little girls to love their Barbie and expect an imaginary love in return. Instead girls feel violence and hatred towards their Barbie,” Agnes Nairn, one of the researchers, said.
I've always thought Barbies were unlovable.

While on E-Bay, my wife noticed a number of Barbies for sale, and almost every one included something like "small pinhole in each breast" or "slight burn damage -- inner thighs." This Barbie-violence urge is obviously primordial and universal. There are deep and meaningful answers about the human condition to be found here.

One day my cousin who had several Barbies told me I could have one of hers...What joy!!...until she gave me the Barbie who's breast had been cut off!

I wasn’t big into dolls, but I did dabble with Barbie. I had two along with one Ken and a Michael Jackson doll. They would mingle at small parties in Barbie’s townhouse. Ken was always overdressed in a purple tux and Michael would arrive in his red “Beat It” jacket. He and Ken would often swap outfits before Ken retired (sans pants) to the bed with sheets made from Kleenex tissues.
The older Barbie went through a drastic transformation one year. I was compelled to cut off all of her hair and deface her with blue ink. This makeover resulted in a frightful buzz-cut and Tammy Faye eyes. She was shunned by all of us after that.
