After hanging up my purple and yellow cleats, dodging some headhunters, taking a brief vacation, hanging out at some very hot board meetings and pondering the future of social software, it was fairly obvious that I was going to have to do another something. I've also inherited the Protestant Work Ethic on my father's side, and the Immigrant Work Ethic on my mother's side. I can't help it. I'm really bad at relaxing.
What to do about this? I am joining NY-based Hunch as Chief Product Officer, board member, co-founder, and resident Facebook app skeptic. It's a fulltime gig, and my primary focus. I'm happy as the first bird of springtime about it.
In the time honored tradition of my various work announcements, a Mini-FAQ:
- Are you moving to New York? No, but I will be spending a lot of time there, while still living in SF.
- Can I see the product? Not yet, but soon -- sign up to be invited in the fall.
- What is Hunch? Well, as you might assume, it is a consumer internet application, it will have a lot of user participation, and it is more than a little fun. Beyond that, we're still making it up.
- Will you be working with Stewart? No, he's currently weighing various metallurgical opportunities.
- How is it that you've got such good skin? Moisturizer after every shower, infrequent suntans, and heredity. Also that picture on the upper left was taken in 2001. I don't look like that any more.
- What with this, and a small baby, garden care, moisturizing after every shower, guitar noodling and writing The Great American Novel, when do you sleep? I don't.

I really love that giddy blank slate, clay-yet-to-be-molded start-up stage. But you see after meeting you in Davos, I was actually mulling over a remote hope that I could somehow convince you to start my next company with me when you were ready to dive back in!
But that niggling disappointment aside, I'd love to hear you rant for a bit on why you are such a Facebook App skeptic...
I know you'll have fun!
cheers,
-P

In the woods, middle of absolute nowhere in the Sierras, no Internet, amazing home cooking by his wife, and a great metallurgic experience that I hope will be a springboard for my own career in fire-spitting metal corsetry. Teh Internet is starting to kinda bore me...

Sorry. Thomas Jefferson once said, 'We should never judge a president by his age, only by his works.' And ever since he told me that, I stopped worrying.
