Daylight Savings Time Troubles

I'm a lousy sleeper under the best of conditions, but daylight savings time, especially the springing forward edition, really makes me miserable. Apparently it also leads to higher rates of accidents, suicide, and numerous health issues. I was once in a remote village in Mexico, got into a conversation with a man who had never heard of daylight savings time. I explained it to him, and he was baffled. "How can you change time?" he said. "That is very dangerous! How American, thinking you can you change time!"

For me it was waking up and not being sure what time it was. I felt a little discombobulated the rest of the day. Didn't help that the alarm clock on the desk gave one time and my cell phone gave another.

I am not sure I have that strong of an opinion on it but living in Saskatchewan, I do grow tired of living out of sync with the rest of the western world. Our official provincial saying is, "What time is it in Calgary?"

Whatever the rest of the world decides, just make sure you make Saskatchewan go along with you.

Technically there is no reason you need to observe daylight savings. I never change the clock backwards or forwards in my car (don't know how). If I just did this with my wristwatch I could live on my time - Joff Standard Time (JST).

My guitar amplifier's volume knob that goes up to 11. Same watts as others, but mine goes to 11.

Mine is 1 louder.

Honey, why don't you sleep? It's not good. Just relax and go sleepy night night. It's not good for you not to sleep. We all get insomnia now and again, but chronic non-sleep is a serious health issue and I fear it has something to do with your perfectionistic, hyper achiever persona. Honestly, no one really cares but you. Just go to sleep.

I do wonder whether it would be feasible in the US to have, as in China, a single time zone (excepting AK and HI) and instead adjust the times that people work and shops open and whatnot.

It's an arbitrary thing, after all, albeit one with friction. Just as the western cities of China are now forced to work to Beijing time, the Pacific coast is condemned to being dragged up early by the Atlantickers, a situation that could be alleviated to some extent by the secession of Cascadia + California.

(That I'm posting this at 4am ET is its own story.)

My four-year-old dd expressed considerable amazement about the time change, and has determined that it is done by moving the sun. "They must need pretty big tools for that," she said.
