Digifoo should be a really fun thing. It is a sort of DIY, self-organizing conferencish thing in which fewer than 100 smart people are invited to hang out, pitch tents, give talks, and invent other stuff to do.

Going to Web 2.0 A less geek, and more CEO style O'Reilly conference. Looking forward to it, it should be good.

Wedding!

I'll be living and working in Amsterdam for a month.

I'll be speaking at a conference for the IT Branch of the Canadian Government on "Communication Tools for the Modern Information Services Community". Wow!

I'm in town for meetings. Then hopefully staying at home until July! I've gone on five trips on the past two months, way way too many.

I am participating on a panel on weblogs and online publishing at the Canadian Association of Journalists conference. It is not open to the public, but is likely to be blogged.

I will be attending C-Summit, a Cameraphone Conference, in Maui, Hawaii. More info on this soon.

I'm will be going to Tokyo for the first time and am looking for suggestions of Things to Do in Tokyo. And we're planning a helicopter ride at night over the city. There's also a possible Flickr Users party happening, I'll post information about that as it is updated.

We're thrilled to announce the launch into public beta of Flickr, a real-time photo-sharing application that integrates chat, photo-sharing, and social networks. The amazing Ludicorp team deserves commendation, mostly because they kick ass in all kinds of ways.

I will be doing a reading with the Seven Sisters in the Bolts of Fiction Series at El Cocal, on Commercial Drive October 27, 7:30 PM. I think I am going to read one of the poems from a new series I have been working on, which may or may not become haibuns. We'll see. I may wimp out and read some old work I'm less nervous about.

I'm really excited about this. I'll be going to New Mexico to see Walter deMaria's Lightning Field, that legendary piece of Land Art, staying in the cabin on the property there. While I'm in the Southwest I may try to see some other Land Art masterpieces: Spiral Jetty, Roden Crater and Chinati in Marfa (where I've been once before, but what the hell. It was great).

Misbehaving.net launches. Misbehaving.net is a weblog about women and technology. It's a celebration of women's contributions to computing; a place to spotlight women's contributions as well point out new opportunities and challenges for women in the computing field.

The site that I designed for The 5k Competition in ye olde MacPaint style will be included in Taschen's 1000 Favorite Web Sites book, edited by Julius Wiedemann, and set to appear in stores on September first. Hooray! The 5k site was already included in the Web Design Annual 2003, put out in Japan.

Yes, for the first time since 1996, I'm going back to Burning Man, where I believe I'll be staying with the Vogons. Woot! There has been some talk about it not happening this year, so let's all cross our fingers.

A little piece I wrote for The Fray is now online, My Superpower, the germ of which was planted here at caterina.net. It is accompanied by some wonderful illustrations by Chris Bishop, Superpower trading cards! It's good to be back in the zine after so many years; I had a piece in the Fray's very first incarnation, when it launched back in 1996.

The latest issue of Numb is now out, and it includes the interview I mentioned I was working on several months back, which was with Moses Znaimer, Canadian TV mogul, and founder of Citytv, the Bravo! channel, MuchMusic and 20-some other TV channels. The article is titled Let 6 billion flowers bloom -- referring to Znaimer's idea of everyone having "their own" TV station. Riad did a particularly beautiful cover for this issue, pictured at left, and I am very pleased with the illustration for the article, which was a collaboration between Riad and me.

The latest issue of The Readerville Journal is now at your local magazine purveyor. It contains an illustration I did for an article about the declining standards of poetry.
